Going through a divorce can be tough for anyone. After all, no one gets married thinking that divorce is in the future for the relationship. But, we all know that divorce is quite common in America, and New York is no different than any other state in that regard.

Factors tied to increased divorce rates

Statistics shine a light on the circumstances and varying factors that could play a role in divorce in America.

For example, a recent news article noted data showing that couples who live together prior to getting married are statistically more likely to get divorced – about 11% more likely, in fact, than those who do not live together prior to marriage. And what about those who have been divorced before and who get re-married? The recent article states that people who are on their third marriage get divorced at the highest rate – over 70% of third marriages end in divorce, according to the recent report.

There is good news for those who take the plunge and get married at a younger age. The article noted data that shows those who get married before the age of 32 are statistically less likely to get divorced – unless they are between the ages of 20 to 25, who get divorced at a higher rate than those who are between the ages of 25 to 32 at the time of their marriage. After age 32, the article states that the likelihood of divorce increases by 5% per year to age of marriage.

Statistics aren’t everything

Although statistics can be surprising in what they reveal about divorce patterns in America, they don’t say it all when it comes to your divorce. The factors and circumstances that lead to your divorce are unique. Be sure to get the right information about how your divorce case will proceed in New York.
